What is a Clinical Needs Assessment?

A Clinical Needs Assessment is a personalized evaluation designed to identify each individual’s unique mental health needs and goals. Conducted in a compassionate and judgment-free environment, this assessment is crucial for understanding your situation and ensuring that the therapeutic approach aligns with your specific requirements.

This assessment process helps answer two key questions:

  1. Can you help me understand my mental health?
  2. Can you provide counselling, psychotherapy, or other treatments that will support my mental health and well-being?

The assessment is conducted over a 50-minute consultation with a mental health specialist. During your assessment, we will gather information about your mental health and provide recommendations for care, including placement with the best possible counsellor or therapist for your needs and goals.

Issues Considered During a Clinical Needs Assessment

  • Mental health history: Previous diagnoses and treatment outcomes.
  • Vulnerability factors: Family history of mental health disorders or trauma experiences.
  • Current physical health: Ongoing medical issues and medications impacting mental well-being.
  • Diagnosed conditions: Evaluating symptoms of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or eating disorders.
  • Substance use: Current alcohol and drug use, including any history of abuse.
  • Life stressors: Work, relationship, or financial issues affecting mental health.

Our Approach to Clinical Needs Assessments

The Clinical Needs Assessment takes 50 minutes and follows a structured process:

  1. Schedule Your Appointment: Contact our clinic to book an appointment with one of our psychologists or specially trained assessors.
  2. Clinical Interview: During the appointment, the psychologist conducts a detailed interview to understand your needs.
  3. Complete Psychometric Assessments: You will fill out self-report assessments to gather clear information about your mental health.
  4. Assessment Summary: Your psychologist will provide a
  5. summary of the assessment, including any known diagnoses and conditions needing further investigation.
  6. Recommendations for Next Steps: Finally, the psychologist will suggest what to do next, connecting you with the right counsellor if needed.
