Commitment and Clarity
When you come to us for an assessment, we have one goal in mind: to provide complete, data-driven results, including accurate diagnoses, to help you recover, grow, and live the life you want.
This can only happen if we: help guide you through the process, and explain and communicate with kindness and clarity. We are genuinely interested in our clients’ stories—their lives, their struggles, and the things that will help them thrive.
We believe that in every assessment we do, the two most important parts are: a) the diagnosis (what’s wrong), and b) the recommendations (what will help!). We work really hard to make good and reasonable recommendations about therapy options, strategies, skills tools techniques…whatever will help you the most, according to the best available evidence!

We don’t ever try to ‘sell you’ on anything you don’t actually need.
Client care comes first, always.
Why Are There So Many Different Assessments?
Mental health is complex, and no two individuals experience it in exactly the same way. That’s why we offer a variety of assessments: each one is designed to explore specific areas of concern, whether it’s anxiety, learning difficulties, ADHD, or trauma.
Different challenges require different tools. For example, someone navigating memory issues after a head injury might benefit from a neuropsychological assessment, while a student struggling with focus in school may need an ADHD or psychoeducational evaluation. By tailoring assessments to each concern, we can provide more accurate diagnoses and personalized recommendations for care.
Think of these assessments as a roadmap: they help us pinpoint where you are now, where you want to go, and the best way to get there.
Below we offer a general outline of the various assessments. Of course, if you’re unsure which assessment is right for you, we’re here to help guide you through the process.
General Mental Health Assessments
Sometimes, the first step is simply figuring out where to begin. These assessments help create a clear picture of your needs:
- Clinical Needs Assessment: A 50-minute consult with a mental health specialist to gather information about your mental health and recommendations for care, including placement with the best possible counsellor or therapist for your needs and goals.
- Psychological Assessment: 1-2 assessment sessions with a registered psychologist. After completing this psychological assessment, a brief assessment summary report can be provided at the client’s request. This summary includes: a clear description of any applicable diagnoses, rule-out conditions, and clear, evidence-based recommendations regarding next steps (e.g., counselling, group programs and other resources, etc.). Ideal for someone who wants a diagnosis and recommendations, but doesn’t need a detailed report.
- Comprehensive Diagnostic Assessment: This is much more detailed, and includes a long report. It covers more areas, and is able to diagnose a wider range of conditions. This thorough and rigorous assessment is administered by a clinical psychologist who has advanced training. A proper comprehensive assessment requires a psychologist with experience in wide-ranging psychodiagnostic assessment, including the proper, expert use of psychometric tools and psychodiagnostics interviews. Typically, the assessment includes 4 hours of interview time (usually administered in 2-3 appointments), as well as a thorough compilation of assessment tests the client completes. The process leads to a very detailed report, and specific, evidence-based recommendations for next steps, which take careful consideration of the client’s diagnoses, personality, preferences, and other needs.
Educational & Neurodevelopmental Assessments
We know how important it is to understand neurodiversity, learning ability, and cognitive functioning. The following assessments can diagnose neurodivergence, and identify problems with executive functioning:
- Psychoeducational Assessment: Diagnose learning disabilities, identify intellectual giftedness, and find solutions to problems in school, work, and daily life.
- ADHD Assessment: Diagnose ADHD, identify your unique difficulties and strengths, understand any other factors contributing to your difficulties, and help you develop a plan with real action and real results.
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessment: Diagnose ASD and differentiate other factors that influence your social, emotional, and cognitive functioning, and help you find solutions in these areas.
Neuropsychological Testing
When cognitive or neurological concerns arise, these assessments help us uncover the connection between brain function and behaviour:
- Memory and Attention Testing: Understand how cognitive processes like focus and recall affect daily life.
- Traumatic Brain Injury Assessment: Evaluate the impact of brain injuries on emotional and functional abilities.
- Neurological Disorder Assessments: Diagnose conditions such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s to better address cognitive and behavioural challenges.
- Fetal Alcohol Syndrome: Identify the cognitive, behavioural, and adaptive impacts of prenatal alcohol exposure, and provide targeted recommendations to support functioning at home, school, and work.
- Concussions & Post-Concussion Problems: Assess lingering symptoms after head injury, including headaches, memory issues, and mood changes, and guide a stepwise plan for recovery, return to activities, and symptom management.
Substance Use & Behavioural Addictions
Substance use and behavioural addictions can affect mood, relationships, sleep, and performance: and they’re treatable. Our assessments help clarify what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what will help.
- Substance Use Assessment: Review patterns of use and their impact to explore effective interventions.
- Video Gaming Addiction Assessment: Assess how gaming affects mood, sleep, relationships, and performance, then provide clear, practical steps to restore balance.
- Pornography Addiction Assessment: Evaluate patterns and impact on attention, mood, relationships, and sexual health, followed by evidence-based recommendations to support change.
